All go at Llanfair

All go at Llanfair

Sunday morning, and while the clock hasn't yet reached 7.30am Llanfair yard is a hive of activity. My loco is on the inspection pit, Dougal is getting yet more fettling on the ashpit, while Countess and train are in the platform ready for the first departure of the day. Drewry diesel Chattenden is poised ready to move the stock for train number two into the platform.

Dougal is a steamin'

Dougal is a steamin'

No doubt which of the three locos in this shot was keenest to get going! Dougal added to the atmosphere, and warmth, of Llanfair shed before dawn.

How early is this?

How early is this?

My Sunday shift started at 5.30am in Llanfair shed, lighting up The Earl (well it actually had 45lb on the gauge when I got there...). Dougal is ahead, Countess beyond, her crew clocking on at 4.50am...

Small loco - big favourite

Small loco - big favourite

Our Barclay gasworks loco Dougal is always a gala favourite, seen here framed by the generator bracket of a visiting showmans traction engine.
