I’ve heard someone yesterday say “this might be the greatest day Denville has ever had”, which is an amazing statement considering not more than 2 months ago my hometown of Denville, NJ experienced some of the worst days it ever had. The floods created by hurricane Irene destroyed or damaged many of the businesses in the downtown district along with over 300 homes. Yesterday we came a long way to putting those floods behind us.

In a period of only a few weeks ‘Denville Up and Running’ and ‘Band+Aid on Broadway’ were conceived, planned and executed. When I was asked to be the photographer to document the events of this amazing day which centered around a 5K run, 12 Bands on 2 stages, the re-opening of the business district and a Meet & Greet by Kevin Jonas (of the Jonas brothers and a new resident in my town) to raise money to support the Denville Hurricane Relief Fund; I jumped at the opportunity to do it. I spent about 10 hours photographing and took over 1000 images of the day that witnessed thousands of people coming together to bring my town back. In a time where people seem to be more divided over issues affecting the world today it was wonderful to be involved in an event where everyone shared a common goal.
