The Colossus of Prora, Rügen, is a somewhat surreal experience. Built 1936 and 1939 as a 20,000-bed holiday resort for the KdF (strength through joy) movement, the complex of 8 massive blocks stretching almost 5 kilometers along the coast was never used as such, and it has had a chequered history since.
