    De Sint-Janskathedraal (Kathedrale Basiliek van Sint-Jan Evangelist) in ’s-Hertogenbosch, wordt veelal beschouwd als het hoogtepunt van de Brabantse gotiek. De Sint-Jan imponeert door zijn omvang en enorme rijkdom aan beeldhouwwerk. Uniek in Nederland zijn de dubbele kluchtbogen en uniek in de wereld zijn de 96 luchtboogfiguren. De kathedraal werd oorspronkelijk als parochiekerk gebouwd en werd in 1366 tot kapittelkerk en in 1559 tot kathedraal van het nieuwe Bisdom ’s-Hertogenbosch verheven. De kathedraal kreeg in Juni 1929 de eretitel basiliek. Het is qua vorm een kruiskerk, meer specifiek een kruisbasiliek. De kerk behoort tot de Top 100 der Nederlandse UNESCO-monumenten en geldt als zogenaamd Kanjermonument. dat extra financiële steun van de Nederlandse overheid krijgt. (wikipedia)

    The St. John's Cathedral (Cathedral Basilica of St. John Evangelist) in 's-Hertogenbosch, is often regarded as the culmination of the Brabant Gothic. The Sint-Jan impresses because of its size and wealth of sculpture. Unique in the Netherlands are the double farce arches and unique in the world are the 96 arc-figures (sculpture on the flying buttresses) . The Cathedral was originally built as a parish church and was in 1366 to Collegiate Church and Cathedral of the new diocese of 's-Hertogenbosch in 1559 until exalted. The Cathedral got in June 1929 the honorific title Basilica. It is in form a cross Church, more specifically a cross basilica. The Church belongs to the Top 100 der Nederlandse UNESCO monuments and is so-calles “Kanjermonument” (whopper-monument, loosely translated) and being such, it receives financial support from the Dutch government.
