After a gloomy day of rain and shopping through the towns of Dickinson and Medora, North Dakota, a shop owner in Medora suggested stopping by the Painted Canyon Visitor Center in Theodore Roosevelt National Park on the way back. The rain had stopped and the Sun was flirting with breaking through the clouds. The first view I got of the canyon was under gray clouds. The colors very muted and dull. Off on the horizon I could see a line of light coming closer. A few minutes later, I took this photo. The Painted Canyon was transformed with my favorite kind of natural light, front lighting with a dark sky in the background.

Thanks everyone! I got a lot more coming from the trip which also included Mount Rushmore, wildlife close encounters and a trip to the town of Deadwood.
