Coglians - Cjanevate

Coglians - Cjanevate

The Coglians-Cjanevate massif is the highest group of peaks in the Carnic Alps, being Mt. Coglians 2780 m high and the Crete da Cjanevate 2769 m high.
Both peaks are made of nice Devonic reef limestone and subject to intense karstic phenomena.

Shot taken from Mt Tersadia. Better seen full size!

From Mt Tersadia summit

From Mt Tersadia summit

Yesterday, while the plain was misty or foggy, the mountains were clear above 1000m asl. We had a little walk on the 1000 m ascent from the S. Martin church (Rualp/Rivalpo) to the summit of Mt Tersadia (1959 m).
This is the result of 9 merged shots, showing the Eastern Carnic Alps and part of the Western Julian Alps. The nice peak in foreground on the right is Seregnò/Serenât/Sernio (2187 m).

Castelvenere

Castelvenere

Castelvenere is a castle sited on the left edge of the Dragogna river valley in the municipality of Buje (HR) in Istria. Its present day croatian name is Kaštel.
During the Middle Ages, and until 1420, this was one of the easternmost castles of the Patriarchate of Aquileia. Later conquered by Venezia was abandoned as a fortress and turned into a tiny village as is today.
The church is on a little saddle between the castle hill and the main hill where present day Kaštel is located.

Today most of the houses in Castelvenere are abandoned and ruined, but some people are restoring a couple of buildings and I discovered there are some ruins on sale.
