Wizardry 169/365 10/18/08

After a night of much needed rest, the hobbits hosted a celebration of Frodo's success and return home. The others were welcomed warmly (although Bingo was sure he caught a couple of hobbits eying him hungrily), and all seemed to be well in the world.

But Frodo was . . . well, he was different, almost like the quest had taken away his capacity for joy. This did not go unnoticed by his fellow travelers, and it disquieted Frankencow especially.

"What should we do?" Frankie fretted. "Frodo isn't happy anymore."

"Bake him a big cake," Bingo said. "Hobbits like to eat a lot, in case you haven't noticed."

"No," Greenie said. "That's not the solution. We must ask the advice of a wizard. He'll know what to do."

And so on the pretext of an afternoon picnic (Bingo was right about Hobbits' eating habits), they tricked Frodo into visiting the wizard with them.

"Aw, you guys," Frodo complained, "what are you doing to me?"

"It's for your own good," Frankie said resolutely. There was a stubborn set to her mouth, and Frodo realized arguing would do no good.

But when they approached the wizard, they were so in awe of him that none of them felt able to speak.

"Tell me what's on your mind, little cow," the wizard said to Frankencow without ever seeming to look up. How did he do that?

"Um, wizard, sir, um, we . . . we . . . have a problem," Frankie managed to say, her voice squeaking. "Frodo's not well since the trip."

"Of course," said the wizard. "I've been waiting for you to come to me. Frodo, you and I need to talk. The rest of you - leave us."

"Yessir," the other three said at once, and turned on their heels to leave.

Bingo was the first to get away because of his trike; Frankie and Greenie had to eat his dust as he sped away.

I don't know how on earth I managed to miss this. Lol, yes, that is a good pic of an old wizard ~ about to have a fill of Old Toby, I believe. Great story line. I get caught up reading it and before I know it I've spent half the night in front of the computer.

Btw ~ we miss you :-(
