pour-off above the cottonwoods

pour-off above the cottonwoods

notice the miniature fluting filled with sand on the pouroff wall.
the curvature of the back wall is most likely shaped as much by wind blown sand as it is by running water, as this area tends to act like a wind tunnel & there is a lot of loose very fine sand in the area, including some 500 foot tall sand dunes just 'upstream'

looking southwest down the drainage

i wonder how much of this sand gets washed away. most of it is blown sand which the wind deposits here from the 500 foot tall sand dunes which are just to the northeast.
