• An t-Aigeach (lit. 'the stallion's head); these cliffs are about 65m tall at their highest point.
  • I've looked at the maps and these islands can only be Coll and Tiree, fully 100km away across the Sea of the Hebrides. Out of shot to the right of this image, the hills of South Uist loomed large across the Little Minch.
  • The Neist Point Lighthouse, which was apparently manned until 1990. These days its operation is automated.

An Èist, Skye. 30/05/10

This shot was taken at the end of May on a beautiful but chilly evening at Neist (Scots Gaelic: An Èist), the westernmost point on the Isle of Skye. I’d like to return there one day in more interesting light – it’s a long way though!

The small township of Ramasaig, a few km from where this photo was taken, has a wonderful piece of instrumental music named after it by the local band The Peatbog Faeries. Well worth a listen!

nice light... it is a long way to travel tho, and thats me in Inverness, never mind Aberdeen. Camped out here back in August, but never got the light myself. Classic view. The path down to the lighthouse was pretty hard going, but that was after an uncomfortable night in the tent.

Lovely shot. When i went here last year there were 60mph winds, not good for photography, tripod was actually moving along the ground!

Good to see the light on the sides of the cliffs. Great shot. Unlike my shots you didn't break the horizon with the cliffs.
