Scrambling to catch the light

Scrambling to catch the light

"Don't ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive." - Howard Thurman

Having been a bit buried in a milllion and one things lately, I asked myself that very question the other day. It's been a while since I went out on a quest for light, natural light, that wonderful light that only seems to appear just before sunrise or an hour or so before sunset. It's a daily gift we are all given if we take the time to unwrap it and appreciate it.

As I noticed the clouds start to form outside my balcony, I quickly realised that the pile of projects I had before me would in fact be there for forever, but the moment to escape and capture the light (as well as embrace something that makes ME feel alive) would pass rather quickly. Funny how fast those moments vanish if you don't grab them!

(as always, more on the blog!)

Wandering around Atlantis and searching for the light

Wandering around Atlantis and searching for the light

"Night, the beloved. Night, when words fade and things come alive. When the destructive analysis of day is done, and all that is truly important becomes whole and sound again. When man reassembles his fragmentary self and grows with the calm of a tree." - Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

As I searched for these words to connect image to message tonight, I am reminded once again, that I truly am a night owl. I know that there are countless piles of data to remind me that to be a better achiever in this global race for optimum performance, I should be working towards an earlier rise time every morning. But that would mean turning in just when my creative thoughts and ideas begin to flow. Also, kinda hard to do that when you light special events for a living! We do work some strange hours indeed.

I shot and created this while toying around with a camera that I rented to test out the video quality for a 30 day VLOG that I did. While the party was going on, I decided to do a little exploring of the grounds and found this cool perspective that shows the party going on in full swing off in the distance. I also created a quick little clip from some of the cuts I gathered from the party. Check it out HERE. Its a little rough, but like I said, I was playing around a bit :)

“Shift to a state of awe and bewilderment as you appreciate the beauty that’s in all people and all things. Stop your habitual way of noticing what you don’t like and instead look hard and deliberately for what you find pleasing.” – Dr. Wayne Dyer

Sunfest Fireworks - 2012 - Grid of 5

Sunfest Fireworks - 2012 - Grid of 5

So, after 4 days of spending alot of time wandering around the local music and arts festival called Sunfest here in West Palm Beach (and dropping a couple of stacks of cash in the process!), I was looking forward to scouting out and capturing a few great fireworks shots from inside the gates. Unfortunately, that never had a chance to happen. After a rather frustrating conversation (if you want to call it that) with an ignorant bag check attendent about what exactly a “Pro” camera is, I was denyed access into Sunfest with my D3. These conversations never seem to go that well for me as I have a real hard time with security, authority, and in this case, stupidity.

What exactly is a pro camera anyway. If this is a item that is not excepted, should there not be a clear cut description for the inept (and while I am at it) rude bag check jackass to follow. And why even follow a guideline like that? Can not an image from even a celphone be labled as an item of worth to a purchaser of content, thus making the iPhone a “Pro” camera? Sure its a stretch, but an easy one to make (except for that bag check person….trust me on that one).

In addition, in this golden age of media, blogs, and social media, would it not be in Sunfests interest to get better quality content out there to promote their brand?

So, I was loosing the battle, so off to execute plan B. A long walk over to the Island of Palm Beach…bad knee and all! Here we go…
