    Rüdesheim, seen from a ferry across the Rhine River to Bingen. St. Hildegard Abbey is on the hill.

    There are no bridges over the Rhine between Koblenz and Mainz, a distance of about 100 km (60 miles). Vehicle and passenger traffic across the river is carried by ferries. There was a railroad bridge at Rüdesheim. It was destroyed in World War II and not rebuilt.
