This is one of the best photos I've seen of
this famous landmark Natchez home designed by
prominent Philadelphia architect Samuel Sloan
on the eve of the Civil War. Although never
fully completed due to the outbreak of war,
it remains one of the best examples of the
Octagon Style promoted by Orson Squire Fowler
in his 1848 classic THE OCTAGON HOUSE-A HOME
FOR ALL. Several thousand octagon houses were
constructed in the 1850's and 1860's across
the U.S., but today they are are among the
rarest of Victorian style homes. Only a very
few were built of mansion quality and this is
one of them. Thanks!
