A trail in Irishtown Nature Park, Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada

A pleasant winter's day makes a walk along the trails in Irishtown Nature Park very enjoyable. With a greater depth of snow, skis or snowshoes would be used. This wooded park is approximately 6 sq.km. in size, and has several km of well-maintained trails.

Ogilvie Brook Dam, Irishtown Nature Park, Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada

Ogilvie Brook Dam, Irishtown Nature Park, Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada

The Irishtown Nature Park in Moncton includes a lake which is a former reservoir for the city's water supply. This dam is located at the mouth of the reservoir, where it flows into Ogilvie Brook. The narrow channel along the right side of the photo allows glass eels to cross the dam to their breeding grounds in the reservoir. The same eels will return annually for as long as 22 years.

Abandoned bridge piers, Grand Falls, New Brunswick, Canada

Abandoned bridge piers, Grand Falls, New Brunswick, Canada

Stone piers from two previous bridges over the Saint John River gorge remain beside the present bridge on Broadway Blvd., Grand Falls, New Brunswick. They remind me a bit of castle ruins we saw in Scotland.
