the word haratin though refers to the black moor, the black mauritanian who lives and adopts the culture of mauritania - they do not speak any language but hassaniya. sometimes they live and work for the white moor families. but there are many "black" africans here that are not haratin - soninke, pulaar, wolof, including people from all over africa. based on the clothing, i would guess these people would idenitify as pulaar or wolof rather than haratin...

This is the family of a friend, Enfant de la Rue, nkc rapper. They are descendant of Haratines (haratine = slave, black people exploited by arabo-berbere...) like him. They speak Hassania because their master speak hassania (hassania is a dialect of Arab language+berbere words...like in maghreb or in part of machrek...). Haratine can be black, Haratines are peuls (pulars) too... it is not an ethnie (like peul, soninke, bambara...) it is a social caste...I think they have the style of pular (peuls) cause it is their origins.
