Doxford 58J4 bedplate

    View of the 58J4 bedplate showing a unique Doxford main bearing arrangement. The bedplate was deeper than on other J-type engines and therefore fairly stiff. Since the centre-line of the crankshaft was 7 inches below the top of the bedplate the thrust housing was bolted directly to the end of the plate
    This engine was fitted to 14,830 ton dw cargo vessel 'SHEAF CREST'
