Off Again

Off Again

To mark my upcoming second visit to Norway, I thought I would post one from the last trip. Not the greatest but I have been off flickr for so long I thought I had better chuck something up before another week passes. This is lit purely by the moon, which was high and bright. The temp was down to -12 and it felt pretty bitter up there. Can't remember where this was exactly but somewhere above Tromso.
So apologies for not posting or commenting very much but I have had some major saga's to deal with. The main one being the death of my 5D mkII on Christmas day, and the subsequent 3 week battle to get it fixed before our trip on Monday. I finally heard today that I should be getting the camera tomorrow, after some serious repairs following a water demise on my favourite beach more than a month ago. Talk about cutting it fine! I just hope it is all ok and works whilst we are away. I also hope I remember how to use it :)
We look set to see some seriously cold and wintery weather in Northern Norway and Northern Finland. Some coastal, some inner frozen forests and a touch of Aurora for good measure. I have been so on edge as to whether I would have a camera, I have not been able to get as excited as I should be. I am sure that will happen on the weekend. Thanks for the encouragement and support last year, and I look forward to posting and commenting more when I return.

Gunwalloe Storm cloud

Gunwalloe Storm cloud

Worth viewing on black.
Nothing new, but one I found in the archives. The composition stood out as slightly unusual, and the sky was pretty cool too. This is a good example of why it is important to leave shots to mature on the hard drive. Decisions made too early on, always get confused by the emotions of the shoot and seeing images with 'fresh' eyes is invaluable. I sometimes look back at shots taken a year or more ago with a view to reworking/ looking at again.
Thanks for the kind feedback on the last shot. Have a fantastic Christmas one and all, and keep the camera close by :)

Feeling Alive

Feeling Alive

Yet another shot from my favourite beach. The tide has a habit of surging in here, and on this occasion like so many others, it caught me out. Despite wearing boots, I always end up with a sock full of water. I now have a par of waders in the back of the car, but seem to look at them before heading out and think to myself 'I won't really be stupid enough to get soaked, they would be overkill'. How stupid I really am :)
Anyway, the shot itself is a bit of drama on a plate. Hard to process due to the contrast, but for a single RAW file I am happy enough. I have started making a mini project to take a number of detail and intimate shots of this beach with a view to making its own gallery on my website. All new and unseen images with a different feel to most on flickr, which tend to be more attention grabbing. I will let yo know when it is completed. Thanks for looking, and I hope you get more chances to go and shoot than I do at the moment!

The Dark Path

The Dark Path

Not a particularly recent shot but one I like for its moodiness. My favourite beach in great light can not be missed.
A little frustrated by the lack of photographic opportunity at the moment. Hopefully I will be able to get a chance to shoot over Christmas. At least I have been able to read a bit online and look back through some older shots.

No Lens info for some reason. Guessing about F/16.0 at 20mm.

El Capitan de Norweg

El Capitan de Norweg

A shot that totally transformed with a b&W conversion. I liked it in colour, but mono was definitely the way to go. Taken by the quite incredible harbour at the end of the Lofoten islands ( possibly Hamnoya), it was a really beautiful afternoon shooting. The shape reminded me of El capitan, others that know that mountain may like to disagree :)
Thanks for looking.
