Roger Gaudry Pavilion

Roger Gaudry Pavilion

This is the Roger Gaudry Pavilion, the main building of UdeM is interesting because of its distinctive planning quality compared to any other University in North America. Unlike most Universities at that time in North America, the architect (Ernest Cormier) decided to build the single building for the University instead of having the buildings scattered on an area.

I always enjoyed this building because of its presence upon me. It is very dominating, something that looks out of Stalin’s Era. So I appreciate a lot its effect. Also the skyline it gives when looking at the North Slope of Mount Royal is unique. I think it is an important perspective of Montreal which is often not shown when we think of Montreal.

Its size is also impressive, this picture represents one-fifth of the actual building.
