This was all her idea ! (and yes, my dog ate the sofa)
Not as easy as it looks, she's been at this camera-building thing during her spare time for a few days now.
She said the hardest part was assembling the shutter mechanism.
When finished, this little Gakkenflex TLR will take 35mm film instead of the usual 120 / 220 options.
After all is done, she plans to have the fun and satisfaction of taking pics with something she put together herself --- even if it was a kit.
Apparently, the added bonus for her is learning to conquer the many pages of technical Japanese instructions.
She also got a book on PIN-HOLE CAMERAS (Yikes !), and declared that the next camera she will build will be a PIN-HOLE one --- from scratch, not a kit !
NOTE : I swear I didn't put her up to any of this !
Here she is doing the "Okinawan thing" ---
Interestingly, while my daughter above is building something to take photos of TERRESTRIAL OBJECTS, her older sister is building something to take photos of CELESTIAL OBJECTS !
Meet the Quality Control Engineer for the new James Web Telescope that will eventually be replacing the long-lived Hubble Space Telescope :
My youngest daughter --- also mechanically-minded, and a fan of model building and general tinkering around --- is now in Law Enforcement. I think that's all I'm allowed to say about that --- but she is also a picture taker like the rest.
FINAL NOTE ON MY THREE DAUGHTERS WHO ALL LIKE PHOTOGRAPHY --- NONE of them have a Flickr Account !!!
