THE GREAT DAIBUTSU AT KAMAKURA #2 OF 3 -- Way Back in 1898

This is a great place to go in Japan. Just think how many old bronze pots and pans they had to melt down to make this. All three pictures in this little group were taken by T. ENAMI over a period of over 30 years. Pictures #1 and #2 were taken only about 6 years apart, and #3 was taken after the Great Kanto Plains Earthquake of 1923, and shows the repaired base of the statue that was highly damaged.

For the 3-D version of the above glass slide, and further statistics on the statue see : www.flickr.com/photos/24443965@N08/2327829585/

There are also many websites that describe the Statue and its long history. If you have an interest start here (where you can see photos from the back, as well as on the inside) before hopping around to other interesting sites : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K%c5%8dtoku-in
