3-D MANIAC MAHATMA GANDHI -- Looking at Stereoviews of.... Pretty Japanese Geisha Girls ???

Good old Gandhi. Here he is taking a break from his portable spinning wheel and non-violent protesting, obviously keeping up-to-date on the latest 3-D happenings.

He's holding an all-metal KEYSTONE TELEBINOCULAR stereoscope, and whatever stereoview he's got in there, it sure is tickling his funny bone !

If it wasn't for that joy-inducing 3-D photo he's looking at, we'd never know he was missing two front teeth -- or is it three? Come to think of it, when was the last time you saw a picture of Mahatma Gandhi having a good laugh...about anything? (There ARE a few good pictures of him with a happy smile, though)

If you think about it, probably every human being is subject to the "Oooooo" and "Ahhhhhh" factor of a good 3-D Photograph. Even Gandhi, who had the weight of his country's destiny on his shoulders, never lost the simple happiness inside of him that could respond with surprise and delight when sneaking a peek at a well made stereoview.

I wonder if he's looking at a view of three Geisha Girls politely bowing too close to each other, and accidentally knocking their heads together.... (some old "Three Stooges" sound effects, please!)

Ha! Maybe you'd be laughing, too......

New 2011 Comments added to the above 2008 posting :

CURRENT EVENT QUESTIONS OF THE DAY :

    (1) Would Gandhi's non-violent tactics against Britain's colonial policies in India be effective in the current Arab world, where violence and protest is going on against non-colonial powers who wield the reigns from within ?

    (2) Would "Quaker Peace Policies" result in "change from within" by those yearning for various freedoms, especially in countries where despots or government policies restrict or punish attempts at such freedoms ?

    (3) Are war and violence the only way to change despotic regimes ?

    (4) Where the Christian Bible says "Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God" (Romans 13:1), does this mean (in the eyes of Christians) that fighting against a despotic government is fighting against the will of God ?

    (5) BONUS QUESTION : If your answer to number (4) above is YES, was the 1776 Declaration of Independence by North America's British Crown Colonies [which appeals to God in their justification for independence] actually in opposition to God's established order, and (if so) is the current USA a country born in sin and rebellion stirred up and endorsed by the Devil, making the Iranian foreign policy statements that call America "The Great Satan" technically correct ?

without your image title, without your stupid comment, a beautiful photo of the Bapu Christ.

Hello Prema ! Yes, it is a beautiful picture of Gandhi. Other than your personal attack against my "stupid comment", thanks for checking in !

Knowing Gandhi as I do, he would have LOVED my picture title, and APPROVED my "stupid comments" even more !

On the other hand, Gandhi would probably DISAPPROVE of your unkind words about my "stupidity". I wonder what Yogi Paramhansa Yogananda would have thought ? In the after-life, you can always run it by him for a 4th party opinion on the matter.

I personally think the Guru would have gotten into a wrestling match with old Gandhi, the two of them rolling around on the floor, fighting over the stereoscope like two little kids with a View-Master !

Seriously, Prema.....please understand that Gandhi was a humble man who understood simple humor and simple people like me, and could laugh at himself, and with others. And being the humble man that he was (who knew his place before the Almighty) he would have been saddened and embarrassed by those like you who call him the "Bapu Christ". He never called himself that, and you shouldn't either.

While I may be "stupid" (my wife would immediately confirm that), I can also confirm that you are too damn serious, and need to LOOSEN UP a little bit !

      Woo Hoo !

I recommend that you get down off your high horse, spend one hour watching some old Three Stooges videos, and become a little bit more like....Gandhi.

Thanks again for your comment, Prema.

Without image title or witty comments I just thought: wow, the old b*st*rd was missing his front teeth JUST LIKE MYSELF! Now I don't feel so bad about my missing front teeth and I have a remarkable photo of one of the most famous people ever to trod the earth missing his to prove that it happens to us all. I even bet, Prema, that the old man would have had a good laugh at these brilliant comments (Shirley, his spirit is.). Oh, did you know that lacking a sense of humour is a pre-requisite for NOT being a sincere, spiritually aware person? Just read up on cult practises and how they lack a sense of humour. Why's that guy from Tibet (Dolly Llama) laughing all the time? What's he laughing at? I hear it's not drugs, that it has something to do with spirituality including a good sense of humour and being able to laugh at everything including yourself.
Three cheers for Toothless United! :D (Oh, and yes, like shaving your head for wash-n-go effect, having less teeth is handy for less brushing time).

There are a few people in this world I appreciate… Rob you’re one of them.
Angels can fly because they take themselves lightly… not at all that I compare you to an angel.

I met the same fate as Icarus long ago --- crash landing a hang-glider on Okinawa back in the 1980s. I'm sure the Angels were all rolling their eyeballs.

    11. John T Pilot (14 months ago | reply)

Rolling their eyballs?... I can see the angels rolling on their back with their hands over their mouth. Course if you got a hard knock on the head in the crash landing that could explain a few things.

I think the "humanity" gives people more depth and doesn't diminish their accomplishments in the slightest. These are people, not idealized statues. People have fun, laugh, cry, have despair, live and then die. Statues get pooped on by birds. I'd rather have met Ghandi than seen his statue any day.

I agree ! I'll bet Gandhi would have been first in line to see Avatar ! ;-)

One of the few men that turned over oppression without the use of guns or sword. I can't say India's fully recovered from the effects of colonialism, but my god you have to start somewhere.

1.What Gandhi did to the British is not a big deal ..but what he did to the
people of India itself is the miracle. To makes millions of ill educated masses
having diverse often conflicting customs , beliefs , langauge ,caste and culture .. to throw away all their differences and stand behind him ...that was his magic !

    18. Okinawa Soba (11 months ago | reply)

      Nice comment. Nice magic !
