THE ARTS AND CRAFTS OF OLD JAPAN -- The Brass Ornament Dealer
Another nice 3-D view of a storefront business. How long did it take to hand-color "metallic" views such as this, as realistically as possible ? Some say it took the colorists hours, as the looked under a magnifying glass, and used fine brushes....some as fine as a single hair.
Brass has a color similar to gold, and the tinting is correct.
Although the near-monochrome confusion of brass objects against a brown background does not initially catch the eye, once transformed by the stereoscope into a planetarium of orbiting objects suspended in space, the picture demands that you return to it again and again, perhaps to find a small moon that you missed...no matter how many times you've looked.
