Angel Playing a Flageolet (drawing after Sir Edward Burne-Jones) and Pre-Raphaelite Angels (poem)
This drawing eventually reached number 16 on Explore. First made
Explore on March 30, 2008, and it's still in Explore over two years
later. This has been a big surprise to me, but I'm very happy about
it.
This drawing is my version of Burne-Jones lovely angel. Pencil, ink,
colored pencil, gold paint on colored paper. I applied velvet powder,
metal powders, gilded braid, and paint to various mats, and painted
the frame to match the predominant colors in the drawing. Drawing
measures about 5 by 7 inches.
Pre-Raphaelite Angels
They were the angels of delight,
Not rushing Powers of the air,
Nor Principalities,
Nor beings of great might.
Mere beauty was their
State of grace--
A sovereignty of light.

Thanks, Dan. It was a lot of work, but I enjoyed doing this one very much! It has actually been one of the pieces I have enjoyed making the most, because I didn't have to think about the composition at all, since I used Burnes-Jones's angel as the model. Composition is always difficult for me.

This is beautiful! I love angels! I must paint some - I avoid them because they are not what the people I know do or want to see in art. But I am realising I will only advance if I do more of the art I want to do!!
