Canada $10 bill, detail / Sigma 150mm f/2.8 Macro Lens

View this (a small part of a Canadian ten dollar bill) HUGE (2222x3333 pixels).

The area you see here is 1.9 x 2.7 cm, less than 5% of the bill's total area. I never knew that the surface of paper money could be so "3D".

This 1:1 macro lens is a recent purchase, the Sigma 150mm F2.8 EX APO DG HSM Macro. I've just barely begun to explore macro photography, but so far, I'm amazed by the detail, sharpness and accuracy of this lens.

For the record... It takes over 80 of these bills to buy one of these lenses. Not cheap, but great value for a macro lens of this quality.

Poás Volcano, Costa Rica

Poás Volcano, Costa Rica

The Poás Volcano is one of the more active in Costa Rica, with occasional eruptions. When I visited it was just "simmering", with the occasional fumarole, a mix of steam and gas that looked like a cloud, but wasn't one... you could tell by the smell!

Railway tracks and signal lights in South Riverdale in Toronto, used by GO (regional commuter) trains and others. Better seen larger on black.

My first try at this was as a blend of 6 bracketed exposures for a "full" view of this scene, but I ended up preferring this more minimal and underexposed treatment.

Niagara: American Falls in winter

Niagara: American Falls in winter

The American Falls are smaller and less spectacular than the Horseshoe Falls, but well worth a look. This telephoto shot was taken on a gray day from the Canadian side of the Niagara River.
