• Notice the torch smut from the torch being on too high. Newbie mistake #1.
  • More smut, plus botched attempt to encase. Fireworks torch can't melt transparent enough to encase effectively.
  • More smut, and wonky dots.
  • These are getting better, they have good puckers on the holes.
  • This ruffled bead broke loose from the mandrel release while manipulating. I salvaged it.
  • Much improved shape and size consistency.
  • More attempts at plunged bubbles, the encasing on a couple of the bubbles cracked.
  • My first attempt at sculpting a heart. Again, the transparent is so viscous in a Fireworks flame that working a bead this size is a real labor.
  • Dots and placement getting better.
  • My first hollow bead! On a fireworks no less!! :D

Our Newbie Beads

These are the beads that started our journey into the world of molten glass lampwork. Starting on the right with plain white Effetre round beads, those are the first beads, moving chronologically to the left, and gradually improving in shape and design as you go around the necklace, ending with my amethyst hollow.

All of these beads are made on a Fireworks torch and 1/8 in mandrels, out of the fireworks beginners lampworking bead kit we bought to get our feet wet.
