Leave Only Footprints - Erzgebirge, Germany

Leave Only Footprints - Erzgebirge, Germany

A brilliant morning sky erupts over the lone tracks of a red fox (Vulpes vulpes), leading far into the wide open, snow-covered space.

P.S. In case you were wondering... it was a lovely 2 degrees Fahrenheit out there (with wind chill), which is a cozy -16 degrees Celsius.

High Sierra Sanctuary - Upper Cathedral Lake, Yosemite NP, California

High Sierra Sanctuary - Upper Cathedral Lake, Yosemite NP, California

The 10,911 ft (3,326 m) Cathedral Peak towers over Upper Cathedral Lake and much of Yosemite National Park like an ancient sanctuary. During a colorful late August sunset the western slope picks up the last light of the day, as seen from the granite blocks 130 feet above the lake's surface and a deer browsing in the meadow to the left of the lake. (It appears as a bright brown dot in the small web size.) While in the distance the peaks of Matterhorn Peak, Twin Peaks, Camiaca Peak (most distant, right behind Fairview Dome) and Sheep Peak (left to right) loom just as majestically over Yosemite National Park and the Sierra Nevada range.

Thanks for stopping by!

Bonfire - Ore Mountains, Germany

Bonfire - Ore Mountains, Germany

With the first real snow day here in the mountains, it was time for me to dig through the archives again; only to come across this image from this year's fall color season that was, as always, too short but spectacular.

I initially decided the image previously posted (LINK) was my favorite but over time, this one grew on me. I like the light much better in the background, find it more compositionally appealing in terms of lead in and the swirl is less directly in your face which when viewed really large, haunts you. It just BUUUUURNZZZ ya!

Anyway, I'll leave it up to you to decide which one you like best.

Thanks for the thrilling ride this year, all the nice comments and see you guys in full force in Twenty-12...

Here's to rockin' 2012!

En Route - Valais, Switzerland

En Route - Valais, Switzerland

A rather unusual black and white image from me, shot en route to the Schonbiel Hut (Schönbielhütte) of the SAC, in the middle of a nasty rainstorm. It was coming down hard, I had my hardshell jacket over the camera, to capture the light breaking through over the Zmutt glacier, along the north side of the Matterhorn in the Valais Alps of Switzerland.

By the way, a new blog post is up: Link below! Plus, I added a link to my G+ profile too. 3...2...1... go!

Gold Swirl - Erzgebirge, Germany

Gold Swirl - Erzgebirge, Germany

Here's part two of Mission Fall Color... "Gold Swirl" I once again returned to one of my favorite spots along this little creek, tugged away in lush beech growth; now in its glowing fall dress. The sun burning through a high layer of fog provided just the right amount of light to make the golden hues really pop. This is a manual blend of three exposures; background at f/6.3 to freeze the leaves from blowing around during the exposure too much and sharp detail throughout. The other two exposures were shot at f/10 for the swirl action and safety reasons such as masking out a leave that left a yellow streak across the image while falling down during the exposure.
