A Penny Saved is a Penny Earned

This savings account book belonged to my husband's grandfather in 1903. He had been married for 3 years by that time. He put modest sums of money (sometimes as little as $3) in this account. I can tell you he was a very prestigious and somewhat wealthy man when he died. I think this illustrates something about how his generation felt about the importance of living within their means and saving for a rainy day.

Don't you admire the cursive handwriting, too? We need to go back to those days--not only for penmanship sake, but for saving every week.
