Seattle Under a January Sky

Seattle Under a January Sky

I got together with my oldest son, Toby, for breakfast yesterday morning and to do some urban exploring together. Was a delightful time! We thought about having breakfast at "BETHS", Seattle's iconic "twelve egg Omelette, greasy spoon. We had breakfast there the last time we got together so decided to try breakfast at "Smarty Pants ", a quaint hole in the wall watering hole with decent food, down in Georgetown. It was a little after 9 when we got there and there was a sign in the window that said they opened at 10. Crap! Sassy would say, "that's what you get for getting up so damn early." We wound up driving to West Seattle and having breakfast at Easy Street Records and Café. The last, and only other time I had been there was eight or nine years ago. I was single back then, having breakfast with a "Match Date". Yesterday they seated Toby and I at the exact same table I was at nine years ago for that "date". Weird nostalgic vibes. Anyway after breakfast we drove around and took pictures of the city from different vantage points. Made it up to Beacon Hill for this shot. A very popular vantage point that I've seen other Seattle photographers post photos from on Flicker. We had never been there before, not even I on a "Match date", so it was a fun discovery. Now that I know where it's at I'll be going back for sure.
This is a five, long exposure, HDR, shot thru a Hoya 9 stop ND filter. Made all the traffic disappear. I'm tempted to get a pair of nine stop spectacles for driving during those heavy traffic days.

Tomorrow's Monday......again, and to make Monday even better for me, I've got a dentist appointment too.

I needed a new picture for my 500px profile picture. I've just had the generic 500px buddy icon for a few weeks now and haven't really had time to spend much time over there let alone post a profile pic. Some of the people who post work over there are very talented, creative, and inspirational. Besides the limitless inspiration I get from all my friends, and others here on flicker, I've developed wonderful relationships with many of my contacts. I don't have that many, but the ones I do have I try to share my time with them in a sincere manner. Often I spend way too much time trying to figure out how to comment on someones work to get around commenting that much. And then filling in "this" comment box when I post something can be rather taxing time wise too. I always felt I could identify with Eeyore in so many ways. Anyway I don't know what I was thinking putting stuff over there on 500px.

Sassy and I went to a 30th birthday party brunch for Sassy's niece this morning. It was at Salty's, a - popular restaurant in the Seattle area for many years. More food than I could eat. Incredible seafood, breakfast food, prime rib, salads. It pained me as I left that place. I was sooooo full. Anyway if you notice a bulge in your monitor just a bit below this image, it's my big belly pooching out.

Got to go. Have a fantastic week ahead. I'm thankful the weather is back to normal here in Seattle. That's a good start to the week in my book. :)

Lonely

Lonely

Available, abandoned, neglected, exposed, out there....that's is how I felt when I signed up on Match.com. That's where I met Sassy. Lonely can be magical....we just don't see it at the time.
Have a great weekend!!!!

A Cold Hump Day In Des Moines WA

A Cold Hump Day In Des Moines WA

So sad to be cold on hump day. Yesterday, hump day morning, on the way to work I stopped at the Des Moines, WA marina to get some pictures of the local "weather event" that made national news, "Seattle needs to brace for the snow storm of the century!" Low and behold the major event came to fruition, (somewhat), after days of the local media saturating the airwaves with warnings us locals receiving snow accumulations of a foot or more. The forecast for up to eight inches the day before didn't come to fruition, but my oh my they were just elated that they almost got this one right. Seattle got two inches. The forecast was that after we got almost a foot of snow or more Wednesday morning, it would warm up to temps well above freezing that afternoon, and a return to Seattle's normal 40 degree winter. Well it's Thursday afternoon and the temps are still well below freezing, over two thousand folks without power because of the freezing rain that didn't make the headlines. They came close......we weren't screwed because of the snow, we're screwed because of the freezing rain, a day or two later.
What really amazed me about this shot is how it shows the snow laying on the surface of the water, as if the water is almost frozen. The snow was coming down in a fine powdery mist.

TGTF! Hope I can get eight hours in tomorrow. Because of the weather, and power outages, the paycheck is gonna be short. Ain't that a bitch all you people wanting money from me. Suck up.
