Biserica Sf. Mihail si Gavril, Rogoz, Tara Lapusului, Romania
Located in the "country" of Lapus, in the Lapus River valley, the wooden church of the Holy Archangels in Rogoz, UNESCO monument, was built in 1663 on the site of a former church. The painting which is still preserved dates from two different periods, most of it from 1785 and the ceiling part from 1834. There is also an older mural inscription which mentions: “the terrifying year 1717 of the time of the Tatars”. That shouldn't be suprizing considering that right on the lintel of the entrance door there is a carved inscription in Cyrillic that refers to the time it was built: “of the period when Transylvania was occupied”.
