Oklahoma Road

Oklahoma Road

During my first Solo Cross-Country flight, from Wiley Post Airport in Bethany, OK to Ponca City Municipal Airport in Ponca City, OK, I snapped a few photos. This one, out the front-left window, shows a road and surrounding ponds and fields. Yep, that little black dot on there is a car.

Oklahoma terrain

Oklahoma terrain

One of the great things about flying in a small plane is that you get to cruise along at altitudes between 4000' and 6000' -- and in a place like Oklahoma, that allows for not only very long-views on high-visibility days, but also a good sight-picture of the terrain below. Looking at this picture in large format always gives me the sensation that I'm falling, -- not sure why, but I expect it's because I know the angle I'd have to be tiled out of the plane to see the landing gear relative to the ground like that.

Garmin G1000 - Waypoint EZRA

Garmin G1000 - Waypoint EZRA

"EZRA" is a user-defined GPS waypoint that I created to have the autopilot line me up for final approach and descend me to 2000' (traffic-pattern altitude) by the time I got to that point. There was an easier way to do this without creating a waypoint that I figured out on my return trip, but oh well.

Sooner Lake from under the canopy of the Cessna 172 wing

Sooner Lake from under the canopy of the Cessna 172 wing

Under the right wing of my (well, not "my") plane (a 2009 Cessna 172SP), that is "Sooner Lake," North North-West of Pawnee Municipal Airport in Pawnee OK. The river to its left (North) probably has a name, but all I can tell you is that it connects Kaw Lake in Ponca to Keystone Lake in Westport.
