As I walked around the upper catwalk of the U.S. Botanical Garden's Victorian-designed glass conservatory, I found this hibiscus, glowing in the afternoon sun. The delicacy, sheen, and position of the petals makes me think of a collapsed silken parachute. The hibiscus has a center staminal column on which are stamens and anthers. The column ends in stigmas. Thanks to HoNbLeSs for identifying the variety as "Fifth Dimension," a great a name for an out-of-this world flower!
