Oh, when I saw the title of your photo, algo, I decided to say Your Lordship to you!!!!
But this view is great enough, to make me envious!
And I saw the sheep flock. Is it the place, where you took your great sheep photos?

  7. peet-astn (77 months ago | reply)

do you sit cross legged on the bed before flying?

  8. algo (77 months ago | reply)

    Great comments - thanks
    Will I live this down.
I never managed to take off, Peter. But the bed is a good idea to avoid the bruises in the attempt. Did you dabble?
Sheep, Linda? But no, I happened to drive past in the sunshine and blocked the traffic for while.

    such wonderful colours !!!
but this time i tend not to agree with your composition (do i dare to find fault with the legendary "algo"?)
the cropped tree on the left, the central framing of the house, the horizon placed almost at the centre... these do not work for me.
(i hope you understand these are just my views )

  10. Jan2eke (77 months ago | reply)

Wow!!! This is beautiful! Love the colours:)

  11. algo (77 months ago | reply)

    Thanks Butterstones. Good comment.
I have to admit I did not think too carefully about this one. The row of trees was planted to hide the house from the road. There is this one clear view, where the tree has been cut down, and I stopped (reversed to it, actually) and caused a traffic problem. So not much choice and in a hurry. This is the uncropped shot.
Looking at it, I don't want to defend it, but still rather like the balance/frame of sky and field, and framing of trees.
What does anyone else think. No legend here!
    (Feels like a mystery, though.(

    I love the colours....

The colors and light are wonderful, but I tend to agree about the framing. However, in the circumstances....

it looks like palace to me...looks cool to me. I dont care about others comment , i found it cool.

  15. jonhughes (77 months ago | reply)

Love the saturated colours, and I think the composition's pretty good too! Maybe a litle more space on the left would have been good, but I like the central horizon - wouldn't want to lose any of that blue sky or golden grass.

hope you have a large staff of servants ... looks a tad big to me :o) It's a GREAT shot of your castle! nice contrasty colors!

I am enjoying the comments here - thanks so much.
Just occasionally I get worried that someone hasn't realised that I only have a view - not the house ... with all the cleaning!!!!
It used to belong to the TM organization and we locals were invited to terrific banquets - and lots of propaganda. They certainly kept it in great condition.

I don't think I did much out of camera processing. I was in a hurry so made no notes - no crop - just resize and sharpen without much care. I needed a rest after a hectic Sunday.

Do you allow visitors to the place for a fee, the way they do at sissynghurst?

  27. Bluepeony (77 months ago | reply)

Yes, Mario/mariotto52, if you turn up with a couple of thousand pounds, you could join the Golf Club, now in residence.

I like the crop, I tried to imagine it without the tree on the left but it becomes unbalanced. This is good. For a hurry up shot excellent!!

If I knew you were so close I would allready had invited you to drop by...:-))

The framing and the horizon work very well for me in a classic building photo!
The colors and the light give the necessary glitter...

So this is where your gardener lives! Mine could claim almost half of such an estate (the green half). As to the composition, I tend to favor strong central placements for such an imposing structure and the two (different) trees provide ample framing. So I don't agree with Buttertones. And neither do I support jonhughes suggestion of more space to the left. In fact, I would even consider cropping the left right 'in the life' of that stump. Just as the right border is framed by branches that are cut 'in the life' as we would say in Dutch. Leaving out a strip at the bottom would compell the viewer to focus on the building even more, I should think.
All in all a wonderful piece of real estate, Alex.

PS: I couldn't suggest my framing as a note because it would render useless the rather large note already in place.

So here you have it, Algo's Abode, my cropthing:

    ALGO's ABODE

  35. Saomik (77 months ago | reply)

    Another brilliant shot, Alex.

I like the original, but I have to say I like ESOX's crop more. The curved left side of the stump was distracting somehow - I wasn't conscious of that until it was gone.

The wash of sunlight over the face of the building is wonderful - the house stands out like a beacon. I think nobody does "Stately Homes" like the British.

  36. Ewa's Oceans (77 months ago | reply)

    Lovely view :-)
But first af all I love this old, old willow. It not too much has left from the big tree (as I imagine), and it seems all the time someone cuts the branches, but still the new ones appears !
    Isn't it great ?

  37. bch12 (77 months ago | reply)

    Wonderful color flow.

  38. destinatio (77 months ago | reply)

  39. jcowboy (77 months ago | reply)

Outstanding work, Algo! Love the colors and composition!

  40. algo (77 months ago | reply)

Thanks for the great comments. I've enjoyed them so much.
The trees, Ewa, are well over 100 years old, and most are going strong. I think this one is the only one down in a long, long row. I'm not sure what they are - assumed it was oak.
Thanks Taco for taking the trouble to make the crop suggestion, which seems to meet with approval. I like it too, but I do miss shapes in the old stump - which I probably identify with too much (being an old codger, sending out new shoots in the form of my photos!. How's that for a rationalization?).

  41. ESOX LUCIUS (77 months ago | reply)

It hurts, Alex, It allways does. That's why we call it 'cutting into the life'.... That old bonsai yamadori stump with its new shoots deserves a picture frame all of its own :-)

  42. algo (77 months ago | reply)

    Yamadori stump? Taco?

  43. ESOX LUCIUS (77 months ago | reply)

Yamdori, the Japanese term for a bonsai formed only by the elements, in the wild. A real yamadori bonsai is priceless. I once witnessed a layman buyer carrying a real yamadori to the counter and bleaching dramatically when he was told the (85 year old) tree would cost him 16.000,00 euro. LOL! He put the tree back in its place and sneaked out the auction hall with a 4 year old Ficus...26,00 euro

RE: Yes, that patch of white...it is a bit overexposed is it not? Well spotted, Alex. The crop you suggested is made and the picture has been replaced. I would appreciate your comment. Has it been an improvement? www.flickr.com/photos/14684343@N00/93230998/

  44. Ewa's Oceans (77 months ago | reply)

Oh, probably you are right, Alex.
However this is very interesting... the trunk is without a bark at all, and still alive :-)
I have similar one in my garden in the countryside, and it's a willow, so maybe this is why I have this association :-)
(I will look for my photo.)

Could I ask you, Alex, to see leaves of your tree in the spring ? It makes me very curious now :-))
