Parallel running

Parallel running

Luckily for me, within minutes of arriving at Stockton there was not one but two trains............both passing my chosen spot and heading in the same direction! It is features such as this that make US railroading seem so big and so interesting to me.
The last minutes of typical Californian evening sunshine strikes the nose of this clean GE locomotive.

Catching the last rays of low sun at Stockton

Catching the last rays of low sun at Stockton

A later than expected arrival at Stockton meant that the sun was almost down and only a couple of trains could be photographed. This northbound is seen shortly before it will bang across the diamond crossing with the BNSF line where the famous Stockton interlocking tower once stood. Whilst being in a bit of a "dodgy area" this location is very good for trainwatching with a high traffic level on both lines.

This is now a Kenworth conventional prime mover should look IMHO. Big square grille vertically mounted, split windshield with pantograph-type wiprs, twin vertical chrome stacks and a simple livery!
