Ollie, in his natural state. I took this with my fab new Helios 44-2 2/58 lens. It's manual focus, so it was taking me a while, and, well, Ollie got a bit impatient. And he demonstrated his impatience in the manner in which Ollie is wont to do.

Also, this is Ollie's first photo for the 12 Months for Dogs group.

So I've been having discussions with duncansalchemist about our Helios 44-2 2/58 lenses, and the adapters they require. Because we both have Nikons, which have a slightly larger flange-to-sensor distance than the lens was designed for, we need an adapter with a corrective glass lens if we want to be able to preserve infinity focus. (Canons don't have this problem. Snots.) We each started getting suspicious that the glass might soften our shots, though. And this experiment seems to give credence to that. I guess it makes sense -- craptastic glass between the sensor and the lens doesn't sound like the best combination.

I'm finally able to take snow pictures with the D7000. Weeee! I've been pretty happy so far -- it seems to be handling the white balance and metering nicely.

This is Fergus's 12th photo for the 12 Months for Dogs group, but it won't be his last -- we've signed up to continue on in 2012. And Ollie will be joining us!
