Harvest Moon—

Harvest Moon—

I was in pilates class on Thursday, when the instructor announced that not only was there to be a Harvest Moon, but that the particular type of Harvest Moon— not sure I have all the details right, but as I recall, Jupitur was directly below it, as the second brightest object in the sky.

Also, the sunset on the western horizon corresponded with the moonrise in the east. We had a line of thunderstorms, which obscured the very beginning of this phenomena, but for those who could see it, there was supposed to be a fantastic set of atmospherics, as the sun blazed down and the huge Harvest Moon rose in the east.

I have been wanting to get a good shot of the moon, so I took my cast iron (not really) tripod and lugged it to the roof of 101 Constitution Avenue. I used my 300mm ƒ/2.8, focused as well as I could, then cropped it a lot.

Harvest Moon over the Capitol—

Harvest Moon over the Capitol—

The Harvest Moon over the Captitol. Jupitur is just below it.

The clouds were racing past, as we had some thunderstorms early. The moon came out, and it was pretty cool.

Taken from the roof of 101 Constitution Avenue. This is the closest commercial building to the Capitol. My kids work for the property management company, that takes care of the building, so they let me go up to shoot this great view.

Sunrise at the beach—

Sunrise at the beach—

I did not think there was any hope of a sunrise, as the clouds lay low and heavy on the horizon.

In less than a minute, this scene appeared and then was gone— as the clouds raced apart.

Playing at the beach—

Playing at the beach—

We were at the beach in NC earlier in the week. I loaded up all of my gear and went for a nice long walk to this pier. I hoped to get some pelicans, along the way, but they were not playing nice.

I took this one with a tilt-shift 24mm Canon lens. Fun lens to play with, but I am far from figuring it out. I think I held the sky back with a ND grad, 2 stop.

The walk back took forever.

Reflections—

Reflections—

Reflections from the C&O Canal in Georgetown, Washington, DC. A summer afternoon walk. Saw these buildings reflected in the Canal. The arch, lower left is from the tunnel entrance I was standing in.

I'll be catching up today.
