Oriental Life Assurance Building - Rangoon - 1914

Merchant St, Rangoon.

Head office of the Oriental Life Assurance Co Ltd which was set up in 1818 in Calcutta and was the first corporate entity offering life insurance cover in India. Its primary client base was the European population whose own mortality in the colonies was always very self-evident. Burma was part of British India from 1886 until 1937 when it gained dominion status

This building would look right at home in South Kensington. It is now the Indian Embassy.
