This is Mee, from Hmong Lao Chai village, in Muong Hoa Valley 7 km from Sapa. I’ve known her and her family for five years now. We met a few days ago while she was cutting the rice with her mother. It’s been raining for the past 3 days, so she uses the time to come to Sapa and sell souvenirs to tourists. Her hair color has changed naturally due to the strong sun at this high altitude. While all Hmong wear the same clothing, sandals and fashion the same hair style, they still find ways to express there individuality.
The fill-in (just because I love square format) was yesterday, as I walking So back to the village at the end of day through a road covered with Bamboos.
Wonderful people... honest, intelegent, hard working, resourceful, family and community oriented, fun loving, enjoy life and beauty… existentialists...
In the Sapa region there are about 35,000 Black Hmong residing in the surrounding 17 villages and they account for about 50% of the area population. Most reside at an altitude of 1,600 – 1,700 meters above sea level in this stunningly beautiful region they call “the city above the clouds”. The Hmong started migrating to Vietnam from China in the last 300 years.
Pls. note: I’m on dialup here and not much on line… will catch up with you when back home, Thanks
