Cañón de Añisclo

Cañón de Añisclo

We just spent a relaxing week over in the Aragon region of Spain. Although we didn't have great weather for most of the time I was able to squeeze out a few images on one of our numerous hikes through the Ordesa and Mont Perdido National Park. Our family favorite was actually Cañón de Añisclo which offered great hiking and beautiful scenery. I was especially drawn to the deep green color of the water in Rio Aso. It is very much the same color you see in mountain runoff in places like Slovenia.

Cheers!

Pass of Glencoe

Pass of Glencoe

This particular February evening in the Highlands was a calculated and enjoyable exercise in chasing the light. I started in front of Stob Dearg as depicted in my last post. After a bit of time enjoying that wonderful reflection, I made a beeline north up the A82 into the Pass of Glencoe. My initial vision for this spot was a simple silhuoetted rowan tree against a brilliant twilight sky. Thankfully, I got here early enough to see that there was quite a bit more on offer.

Cheers!

Rhyolite and Ice

Rhyolite and Ice

I never actually knew that I had a favorite rock until I went to Scotland. On my very first visit to places like Glen Etive and Glen Nevis I was really taken with the look of the deep red rock known as Rhyolite. It is a faint pink color when dry but when it gets wet it is a dark shade of almost blood red. On my recent visit to Glen Etive I saw this small waterfall running down the Rhyolite rock face on the other side of the riv er surrounded by frozen grass. I was attracted to the graphic juxtaposition of the smooth flowing water and the harder textures of the surrounding ice. I also thought that the red of the rock looked great with the blue shadow areas so I put on the telephoto lens and framed a composition. I hope some of you will appreciate this as well.

Cheers!
