He Can't Read

We were on the Pismo Beach Pier last night, and in spite of the "DO NOT FEED BIRDS" signs everywhere, the fisherman along the pier were throwing small fish to the brown pelicans who wandered among the crowds. Though it was amusing to watch them run gracelessly and gobble up the fish in one swallow, they were heedless of any nearby people, so probably not a good idea....

So who is it that can't read ? the pelicans or the people?

Cute pelican shots Jill... I think it's both that can't read... or is it selective reading.. lol :-)

A fun bunch of shots! Pelicans are not graceful when on their feet but they are beautiful birds.
As for the sign, it's the people who can't read. There are signs posted everywhere at my work about not feeding the gators. That doesn't stop people and then they wonder why the gators sometimes come close to the walkways.

I love watching these guys stumble around. They are so graceful in the air and so clumsy on the ground.

I love Pelicans... so very graceful in the sky and ponderous on land. I would probably give them a bite or two, but I'm a old softy.

Great salty series, some nice shots!

Wonderful series of shots, Jill! I think people just can't resist feeding birds and animals. It sure provided you with some nice photo ops!

Looks like you made a new friend or two!The birds are incredible and the people...well? I like the pelicans! See if you can find them here in the winter, they should be very colorful then.

The pelicans know that the people don't pay any attention to the signs.................so they
      just enjoy it...............

Nice series. I love their awkwardness as they waddle around and through people. They are definitley interesting birds.

It's too bad they can't read! There was an article on SF Gate recently about all these emaciated pelicans being rescued. All these look like young one, and evidently when they get hand outs like this, they never learn to hunt properly...and you get the idea.

Anyway, it looks so forlorn! Probably very hungry.

yes , very nice pictures ,
why should they learn to act like pelicans when they can enjoy their life this way ?

Cute and ironic. Te pelican seems to have been enhanced somehow - maybe it's just a trick of the light.

What a fantastic series!! and the light is wonderful too!! My daughter and i took a picnic lunch to a local park and sat down and were soon accosted by a zillion ducks and gulls.... we fed them a little as our lunch was on the skimpy side... but had fun watching them scramble over the offerings... when we left we saw the signs... do not feed the birds... LOL oh well...

Haha - I love the irony of the signs juxtaposed with the pelicans.
