Leather & Whips

    Newer Older

Definitely one of the weirdest and wackiest entrants in the Pride Parade were all the kinky leather wearing "cult" members. I think this fella is probably an accountant by day and slips into his leathers and wields the whip on weekends.....

Thankfully, they were near the end of the parade, because by then I was definitely "weirded out". Many people brought their children to the parade; I can only imagine that conversation: "Daddy, what does that man do with the whip?"

Other than photo ops of weird people, I probably wouldn't have the nerve to go to this parade. Sure glad you did, so you can show us all the weird people in SF! And these people probably think they are normal..... I'm just shaking my head.. Thanks for posting, Jill! You got some great shots.

These events are no threat to anyone, although I have to question the taste of the folk taking part. As you say, families are there with kids. Lots of good shots Jill, congrats :o)

I'm just at a loss for words, Frisco is surely a different place. I'm a very tolerant guy and would have fun at this event.... but in this part of the country... yikes! It would get pretty interesting :-D

Great portrait Jill, though I'm a bit confused by the comments above.

colorfulexpressions- Why would it be "brave" to observe and photograph this parade, do they bite? Is it any more shocking than the black roots of your obvious beach blonde of a do?

Why does it take "nerve" AZTransplant, if you went there to observe and photograph, would you be banished from your society? And since you're in AZ, do you think people who wear guns to Starbucks are "weird"?

Tony's place -, if people take kids to this type of event, they know what's coming. A muffin top belly over leather pants will hardly traumatize a child, unlike a much more common case of an abusive father beating his spouse.

konrad - SF is not that different from many urban centers around the world, this just happens to be once a year event, as it does in any large urban area in the free world.

Sheesh, I think I said enough, and I didn't even see the parade, I was watching Prometheus in 3-D at the Van ness movie theater!

Indeed the Pride Parade brings into public view a variety of people and behaviors that exist everywhere, and in fact there are Pride Parades throughout the world. I found it to be a day full of free expression and tolerance and laughter and fun - a lesson in acceptance of the choices of others as long as they follow the edict of "do no harm" and "do not thrust your beliefs on others". It does not mean that I'm going to rush out and adopt any new beliefs or behaviors myself, but I certainly believe that each person has the right to pursue what is true and right for themselves.

well, my wonder is why Haddock has a problem with others expressing their thoughts.. oh well.. enough said... have been on the outskirts of pride parade... would def not ever take my kids... if someone has a problem with me expressing myself for saying that... so be it.. to each his own.
