My favorite herb is basil, and I planted 4 varieties this year. Thai basil has dark purple leaves and tiny perfect blooms. I think I need to pinch off the blooms to make sure the plant continues to grow and produce leaves, but not until they've done their job as photo props !
The 50mm lens is back on the camera for a while now....

I've never seen this...how does it taste? The bloom remind me of Fuchsia in shape.

No idea about pinching blooms, but the green and purple go well together!

Our Thai basil has now sprouted for the third year in a row ... it is like mint, just takes hold! very pretty (and flavorful, too!).

Oh me too! I love this kind! Not easy to find here i think it gets scooped up early. It does not overwinter here like mint does.
nice shot, pretty with the dappled lighting.

Loved your comment--like I said, I think we all do it depending
on the circumstances.

I also am a basil lover... and i have bought and planted.. i am babying some right now... a generic variety... all the ones i bought and set out got eaten by slugs.. so i have done the UNGREEN thing and put slug bait around the ones i am babying... i found some Russian Sage in Georgia that i loved the smell of and the flowers of.. haven't found it here.. i guess i should look in the seed catalogs and try to find it... Hope you have a great week!

Common basil has rather unremarkable white flowers that are too small to make an impression. These are lovely. Nice depth of field, too.
I just have the ordinary basil growing in a pot right now. It still makes fine pesto, though.
