The Bedouin

The Bedouin

News for eveybody following my stream: My Pro account is going to expire in two days, I won't extend it for another year. It was a great present I got for my stay in Japan and I hope you all enjoyed it as well! If there is any picture in the stream you want to save, do so before it's gone. I will purchase a Pro account again, when I'm back in Japan.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So far, my best wishes from Egypt, I'm spening my vacation with the Benouid teaching the kids.
Some interesting facts about the people I'm currently living with:
The Bedouin are not poor and they don't need benefits.
They're living on their own in the desert in groups of 20 to 60 people, usually 3-6 families sharing the area. The Bedouins living in the Arabic Rock desert are living semi-nomadic, which means they're still moving, but they stay at a place as long as there is enough water and food for themselves and their animals and they build houses to live in, not only tents.
The Bedouins don't own land, they're allowed to move and live free all over egypt, they don't pay taxes and if they have to go to hospital (they rarely do), it's free of charge for them. One man of the community is responsible for the paperwork concercing passports etc.
The boys have to be in uniform for three years to learn how to write and read, because bedouin don't have a school (sometimes there're people like me though).
The bedouin kids learn to walk shoeless starting at the age of two. The reason is simple, the Bedouin say, that when your feet are getting hot on the sand you have to stay in the shade or you risk to suffer from a heat stroke or in other words: If your feet had enough sun, your head needs a break too!
A newborn benouid gets fed a mixture of dried scorpion and snake (i forgot which one) for 40 days every morning starting with the day of birth. After this the child has a lifelong tetanus protection! Remember that we have to get those damn tetanus shots...
