Reykjavik public sculpture

    Prev Next

You've got to love a country which has public sculpture like this. It's on the harbourfront, and is equally dramatic day & night; this was taken around midnight on a v long exposure. I just discovered that there's a whole group on Flickr dedicated to it! If you like this pic, click to the group - there's some amazing shots there...

Hoffmann, vvt, tricky (rick harrison), and 19 other people added this photo to their favorites.

Great picture, and welcome to the Sólfar group! I'm amazed and delighted at the great variety of images we have so far! I have been to Iceland twice, a few years apart, and without meaning to took two photographs that are practically identical except for the color of the sky. Now I see all these different shots, and wonder why I didn't go back at night, stand over here, stand over there, etc.!

      Fantastic Viking boat.
      Terrific night time shot.
Reminds me that I wanted to get into that this winter ....

Thanks for your kind comment. The trouble with sunbeams is that one can't process much, or one gets serious white out. All I did - or needed to do - with this one was some sharpening afer downsizing.
      Not like this early one:

Ugh! Too much contrast - but I was using Picasa at the time ...

A wonderful low light photo of the Sólfar. I love the colours. The dusk-time blue sky and the golden tones created by artificial light and reflected off the brushed metal are warm and cold at the same time. Just like this wind-swept place.

Ha, when did you start using this picture as your icon? I love it! Bringing back a lot of nice memories of my (way too short) trip to Iceland... :-)

@Dappers: Thank you! I've been using it from the beginning - as the first photograph on my stream, it seemed appropriate :)

A sort of beetle-dragon ship for vikings with their hands up...
