Oh I really like that - there's all sorts of subdued character in that.

great shot! i love street photos taken in the rain. (3to1)

I like the universality of this scene. At first glance, it could be Chicago or New York, and hat is one of the wonderful things about the flickr experience – it shows how small our Global Village really is. After all, we can all go to Starbucks for a spot coffee.

At first I wondered about leaving out the running man’s head, but soon realized it was the natural and obvious choice if this were to be English Summer and not Chadwick’s Dash To Work.

Aye, beautiful... just how I remember it.

However I hope it to be sunny when I go back :-D

The anonimity of the city. The cover of a storm. It does not matter that the people have no heads, they are invisible anyway. Just umbrellas with feet as we walk with our head down. Love umbrellas, one can hide there, become invisable also. Who cares if we are there as long as we don't touch. Don't look. I will hide. Great sociological statement you just make. Maybe it needs a different name. "Invisible"

Thanks so much for the responses, everyone :)

@Tiny Tear, Simon & the Guess Where London group: That's right - it's Berwick Street, just outside the shop formerly known as Selectadisc, and now called Sister Ray.

@Angelferd, Lulu!, P Doodle and Glen's Pics: I completely agree with the comments by P Doodle and Glen's Pics. I think it's a much more interesting picture this way than it would be with the heads. I have a few like that, and I find them dull, whereas I find this one extremely atmospheric. I can only conclude that the anonymity of the people is part of that.

    19. grace*c* (72 months ago | reply)

An otherwise average street scene turned art. I love the anonymity (to use your word) of the people but also the crisp clean feel this has even though it's an urban area.

Great shot! The movement is so totally alive.

Funny! We do get used to it though. I find if I take my umbrella out with me, it doesn't rain, unfortunately the reverse is also true!
