Time to rest.....

    Rusty [ taken last summer]. ...he was taking a break from patroling the yard.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~
    You may or may not have noticed that I haven't been on Flickr as much as usual.......and I apologize for that but have GREAT news~ I caught the LAST kitten [#5] this morning.
    Why are the last ones the hardest to catch? It didn't help that:
    1. It was pouring rain non-stop while trapping.......cat's HATE rain.
    2. The park maintenance people showed up two days in a row to work on the grounds right next to the caretaker's house. Loud equipment and strangers kept the kitten out of sight.
    3. The caretaker's boys played in the backyard today when I was trying to trap.
    4. The caretaker put their two chihuahua's out in the backyard while I was trapping....
    5. Despite feeding the three adults while there [ I spayed/ neutered them last October] they kept going in my traps. I must have gone thru thirty cans of fancy feast & six large cans of tuna keeping them fed ...[ no kidding].
    I also saw an orange TOM this morning in the same yard. I should trap him....but am totally exhausted....so he will have to wait as I'm taking a BREAK--no more TNR for awhile..
    ** Today's kitten is a little tuxedo boy. He has an injured eye.....my vet assures me he will be ok.
    ** Father cat was released this morning.
    ** Mother cat will be spayed next week.
    ** All the kittens are going to private homes/ foster and will eventually be adopted ~ woo hoo.
    I am disappointed to learn that "picnik" is shutting down. I used their site a lot .....mostly for making collages. sigh.
      Wonderful photo of Rusty taking a summer nap.
      Great news that you caught the last kitten!
      I think part of your rains is part of the weather system hitting us but not sure
      I drove up to the big City in winds and cold but coming home it was worse however it was a time to get there and back before the freezing rains and snow along with high winds come in.
      I can see why it was so difficult with all that was going on.
      Good news all the kittens will be adopted.
      I had heard that picnik is shutting down from a contacts sight earlier this week.
      Once filckr offered ways to do collages but that seemed to end long ago to my knowledge
      The howling winds and cold is brutal here right now. I sure hope the farm horses and kittens are OK.
      Take care
      I think this is just the most adorable shot of Rusty. Glad you caught that last kitten. Seems as though the odds were against you. Good you are taking a break but knowing you it will be a short one.
      Re: my squirrel pic: After the dog chased Red up the tree he then jumped on me and grabbed my camera strap and started yanking at it. This dog was my height too. The owner just stood there laughing...thought it was cute, sigh. Sometimes people just don't get it!
      Google is shutting down Picnik. I just signed a petition that will hopefully save the site.
      (R, I sent you the link to the petition in an email to you.)
      Love seeing Rusty particularly on days like today...rainy, gloomy, and bummed about Picnik
      days!! Great photo, Rebecca! Congrats on trapping the last kitten!! You're amazing!
      Lovely image of Rusty, he sure looks to be taking your advice! Very happy that you got that last kitten and he will be going to a good home. Have a good time on your break as you surely need it. I will look forward to the pics you get from your break as well. :)
      Too bad about Picnik also, up until I got a new proccessing program a few months ago, I used it a lot as well. It would be nice if they offered their lastest edition as a download to people before they left. Then some people that depend on that program can still use it. :)
      Nice shot of Rusty living the easy life.
      Picnik was bought by Google and flickr is owned by Yahoo, so they were bound to split eventually. flickr will most likely come up with something to take the place of Picnik since a lot of people use it.
      PS: Don't apologize for not being on flickr enough. Do what you have to do and have some time left over for yourself and your family.
      Beautiful shot of Rusty, how wonderful to trap the last kitten, and such good news about their future. . . that'll be too bad about picnik. Won't affect most my shots, but I need a sepia one for the 112 pictures in 2012, so I better transform one of my photos soon. . .
      I love this picture of Rusty! He looks like you should when you take a much needed rest soon (or now). Congratulations on getting the last kitten. When you got the adults, I was pretty sure it wouldn't be too hard to get the kitten, as they are usually less wary. Though all the challenges that you had to overcome would make it very difficult!
      I too am disappointed that Picnik will be shutting down. I imagine someone will put something similar in it's place and that you will have to pay more to use it, is all.
      I just found out about picnik, too. They said something about using +google but I really don't like that site much. I do use Picasa and they have added a few features but it does not have the extra options picnic had. So sad.
      Love the picture of Rusty all squooshed out flat with his chin resting on the cool stone. Must have been comfortable for him way back when it was so hot! It was so thoughtful of him to locate himself in just the perfect place where his face is framed by an archway of greenery.
      So happy that you finally got that last kitten. He must have really be starving to run into your trap with all that commotion going on. Or ... maybe he looked at it as a retreat and hiding place from the dogs and children and the noise of landscaping equipment! ;-)
      Thanks everyone for your kind comments! I am so tired [ physically & mentally] from all the cat TNR's I've been doing this month. I care so much for each and every cat so put a tremendous amount of pressure on myself to catch them asap so more cats won't be born this Spring.
      When I'm trapping cats, I get so fixated to the point where I can't think or do anything else until I've captured all.
      Whew. It will feel great to take a break. But now I need to focus on my cat colony which has been neglected this month.......and need to focus my camera on other subjects around me.
      Congratulation on getting the last kitten trapped in your latest TNR project! You have worked so hard to get this taken care of, now I hope you'll enjoy a rest, just like Rusty. The kittens all look very cute and should find some good homes quickly.
      i love this catnap - and congrats on getting that last kitty!
      with all the obstacles you were up against, i would say you have accomplished a small miracle :)
      and you can make collages with flickr photos using big huge labs (sorry for redundant info if you already knew that)...no clue if they are better/easier than picnik since i've never tried picnik before.....or i guess you could just do them the more time-consuming way in photoshop, haha
      anyway - enjoy your break, get some rest & relaxation, and just think of all the wonderful things you have accomplished - challenges that not very many people would even consider taking on
      *cheers*
