Frosty morning~
It was in the low 30's this morning while hiking. Despite the low low light...I took pics of a couple mushrooms near the trail...I like this one with the frosty cap. Another image below.

These were deeper in the woods...so not exposed to the frost. I think their dark color indicates decomposing?

Wow Rebecca! That frost topped mushroom is a great find! Wonderful sharp details of the ice crystals. I love these miniature mushroom photos you do. They look like something out of a fairy tale :)

I absolutely love the top shot--the mushrooms and toadstools sill not be out here for a couple of months yet--I may have to try to get some shots if I can get my lens by then!

lol! We must have mushrooms on the brain today - this is absolutely perfect! How wonderful that you have such a rich supply of them where you live. It's a rare treat to find them here, unless I go trekking very deep into the woods, which I'm not always crazy about doing. Love the frosty cap - I've never seen one with frost before. Love this!

Rebecca, thanks for sharing a bit of your walk with us. Love these shots, so peaceful and I feel like I'm there. The bottom off-set shot is particularly serene...a feel-good shot for me.

This is a neat shot because I always think of mushrooms as a summer species.

Nice one of the hearty frosted mushroom. Ours would wilt fast if exposed to a frost. Lovely photos of mushrooms!

Beautiful shots Rebecca! I love the one with the frost! Do you use your tripod when shooting in the low light? Because these are very sharp. I wish to see shrooms again right now we are buried in the snow!

Brrrrr - - that's exactly how I feel (and I just had my hair put into a french braid so now I'm doubly chilly!)...Great captures - - looks like the second shot of the family of mushrooms are huddled together for warmth!!

Great shot - I never want to get down that low in the winter. The ground is all wet. I could send you some snow if you like.

Beautiful capture of the frost on the mushrooms. Nice job with such low light. Great colors and dof!

The are both stunning, love the frost hat on the first and the lovely bokeh and the second the colors are just yummy! I miss green and mushrooms. The sun finally came out yesterday after about a week of fog...unusual for our area, the only nice thing was the hoar frost it was sooo thick on the power lines that the power was flickering.
bulldog1 (28 months ago | reply)
Both photos are stunning! There was hoarfrost this morning due to fog and we dipped to 14 below zero. Roads were finally good enough to travel and could have had a couple extra hours but did get much done and had time to relax at favorite bookstore.
Love the frost on the mushrooms....Magical
p.s. snow moves in later tomorrow but only 2-3 inches and not like the last system

It WAS quite cold this morning, wasn't it? This mushroom looks awesome, like it was dusted with sugar sprinkles! I love it!

Great mushroom portrait with the sugar on top. Our mushrooms got frosted a long time ago.
You might consider carrying a plastic bag in a pocket when you're in the woods like that. You can put it on the ground and kneel on it without getting too wet. Then you turn it inside out when you're done, the wet side is inside, and you can put it back in your pocket.
Also, I run my D3 up to ISO 800 on a regular basis, and 1600 fairly often. I get some noise at 1600, but noise reduction in Lightroom takes it out pretty well. 800 looks pretty clean most of the time. Don't hesitate to try higher speeds with the D3. It does a good job.
