This is a basic brother student model from the late 60's, which takes the standard manual typewriter ribbons. I've been finding them on Ebay for $5 or so. So far, they've been easy to find....and the ribbons actually last a long time.

Siri - I remember *almost* passing on this one for $3 a few years ago. What was I thinking? Thankfully, a friend reminded me that I was being crazy. ;) I see them around here lots, though....maybe another will appear your way soon!!

oh my heavens, I love old typewriters. one of my most potent memories of my brother when he was little was watching him poke away at the old typewriter, crafting stories, the sun coming through the window and lighting up his blind hair.
I need to find one for Lucy.

Right now our favorite thing to do with it is leave it set up all day with a story in progress. Here and there throughout the day we each add a sentence. And by dinner we've got a crazy, silly family story all written up.

I got my old one at the local senior center and now it is my "Guest book". Guests who come can type away on it and leave their words, name and date if they like. They are so much fun and how great that your kids are learning the old school typing!
