Girly Style Wardrobe. These pattern sheets make me loopy. Seriously - all those overlapping lines? In Japanese? Good grief.

That's crazy! I guess the idea is to save on paper. It must be hard to trace out what you need.

  2. Bluebirdbaby (49 months ago | reply)

Goodness...I had no idea that's what they looked like! Good luck...

they're totally crazy, and they make my head spin. But really? If you slow down and focus, it's not so bad. It's just the slowing down and focusing part that I forget each time. ;)

Agreed. I highlight the pattern I'm cutting out with a coloured marker. Makes it easier to trace.

that pattern sheet is just cruel, give you props gal for going for it!

That's what I do too with those. Highlight the size in a certain color, then trace. Since I have two girls. Just makes it easier. But that book is one of my favorites and they have a new one out too.

I have that book. It's a serious challenge, but worth it. Oh, and I have some of that fabric too - also from Stef. She's a sweetie.

I find that *finding* the pattern to even highlight is the trickiest part. I just stare and stare at that thing for a very long time. ;)

I know that two-color printing is more affordable, but gosh, I love how the Ottobre patterns, for example, use 4 or 6 colors. Makes it sooo much easier to see!

(says she who is writing a book which might very likely have a 2-color pattern sheet. Ahem.)

Whew! I always take a few deeeeeep breaths before launching in. Also, I try not to do it late at night... preferably in the morning after a sufficient but not too much amount of coffee...

oh geez... it's seamstress origami! that's the part that i abhor. i rebel against my own self unfortunately. once you do the cutting it's all a breeze!

that looks like a nautical chart of some kind. and it makes me seasick.

It is so funny, I learned to sew with Burda patterns from the magazin, and the first time I used american patterns, I was lost. SOOO many space;-))))))
    I use a tracing paper www.shopatron.com/product/part_number=434/181 .0.22734.227... and a tracing wheel www.shopatron.com/product/part_number=480 W/181.0.22734.22741.0.0.0.

I have never used anything else, only the japanese pattern books : ) I find that if I trace them and cut the fabric during the day, and save only the sewing for night time them I make a lot less mistakes... btw that fabric is to. die. for!!

oh my goodness, i'm not patient enough for this. but i'm pretty sure that fabric from stef would make it worth it!

    i know, i know....
i have a few patterns like this.
i took one look for about 3 seconds
and started to get this warning:
    *brain overload, abort mission*

YAY!!!! Oh I'm so happy to see that fabric being made into something special for Miss A! You have to share when it's done, okay?

  17. SouleMama (49 months ago | reply)

stefani - she TOTALLY claimed it as her own! She's so in love with all the animals - I can already see it on her with her poking her belly naming them all. Thank you!! And I will most certainly post when it's done. ;)

Oh my goodness. I just struggled through (nearly died, I swear) over a tunic from oliver + s, and it's just a regular old nested pattern. I think I'd have a seizure trying to sort out anything on that sheet!

oh keep at it. it is so worth it.

i stare and stare, finally see it and go.....the trickiest is when all three of my girls choose something different.....pants for one, a skirt for one and then a dress for the littlest! yikes. that's when my brain overloads. i always need to do it all at the same time so they all know they *will* be receiving theirs....i have found if i wait, just doesn't happen and i am left with one happy + two very disappointed girls.....

i am hoping working with these patterns will activate the same part of my brain that playing scrabble would or crossword puzzles :)

    Too cute Amanda!
Where did you get the pattern book from?
Can't wait to see Miss A wearing it.

HOLY CRAP!!! I have lots of Japanese craftbooks but they are nothing compared to this!

  25. yarnfoodcoffee (48 months ago | reply)

...what? Is that... for real? *gulp* Maybe I'm not as obsessed with Japanese craft books as I originally thought...
Aw, who'm I kidding? I would give my right knee cap for every Japan craft book I've ever coveted.
But major kudos to you for having the patience to do it at all... with three Littles running in and out of the craft room and down the hall, I imagine.
