and the connection I feel to my dad
as I see this view of my mother
surveying the gorge
through his eyes
his lens
is almost palpable

Route 611

Broad Street in the center of Philadelphia
becomes Route 611 or Old York Road as you head north out of the city
this used to be the only way to the towns and countryside beyond
and my mother remembers the annual trip her family used to take through Jenkintown
en route to their bungalows in "the country" every summer
to avoid polio epidemics
