I managed to sneak a camera out on a family trip to Duffryn Gardens and took a few snaps on the wander round. Sadly, digital rather than film, but you have to take your chances when you can. I will re-build my darkroom, honest!

jittering giraffe

jittering giraffe

Currently the most popular item in our household and a none-too-subtle clue as to my lack of photographic output in recent months.

All I have to do now is find the time and money to build my new darkroom and get back to shooting some film. I suspect that may yet be some time away...

Circumstances mean that I've had to bite the bullet and buy a d*g*tal camera. After a bit of research I took a punt on a Panasonic Lumix GF1 with a 20mm pancake lens. Apart from the lack of a viewfinder, it feels similar in the hand to my beloved old Pentax MX.

I'm still finding my way, but thought I would have a bash at some abstract, wibbly-wobbly photography to begin with.

Much photographed, it was still hard to resist. This was quite a dramatic crop from the full frame, but it works for me. I've found a temptation with my Cwmorthin photos to print large, but this has ended up quite small at about 8"x5" image size. With a generous border it seems quite pleasing to the eye. The viewer has to do a bit of work to pick out all that the image has to offer.

Normally something I associate with lith printing, I didn't let this go to full development, but pulled the print early. This helped prevent some of the shadow tones from blocking up.

Another scan of a wet darkroom print made on Foma Nature II 532 paper. Developed in Moersch SE2 and toned in selenium.
