Before we got in our kayaks (Hallwilersee in Switzerland), we had a quick photo session. Photoshop file made up of 15+ layers to create this high contrast, illustrative look. 100% non-destructive method. I also created a magazine cover mock-up for fun.

Morning, storm clouds and overcast.
Flat light.
Underexposed BG.
2 bare flashes (1/16th?) on either side of subject slightly behind (on
light stands).
1 flash behind/right of camera for slight fill on subject. I would
have preferred a shoot-through umbrella on this flash but high storm
winds prevented this.
